How to Transcribe a YouTube Video and Turn it Into an Article with ChatGPT

Want to turn any Youtube video into an article by using ChatGPT?

Writing an article can take a couple of hours and transcribing a Youtube video may cost you some money.  But there’s a way to do both for a super low cost within a matter of minutes by using ChatGPT.  All you need is a Youtube account and a ChatGPT Plus subscription,

Here are the steps in creating a 1000 word article using Youtube’s free transcription and ChatGPT 4.

Step 1: Navigating YouTube

Finding Your Video: Begin your journey by visiting YouTube. To obtain a transcript from a specific video, you can either:

  • Click on your Profile avatar on the top right corner and go to Your profile.  Now on your channel’s homepage, find one of your Youtube videos that you want to transcribe.

  • Or, Use the search bar at the top to find other videos or channels with videos that you can transcribe.

Step 2: Delving Deeper into the Video Details

Once you're on the video's page:

  • Locate the video description below the video player. This is usually a short paragraph or list provided by the uploader detailing what the video is about.

  • In this section, you'll find a button labeled 'More' or represented by the symbol ('...'). Click on it.

Step 3: Accessing the Transcript Window

From the drop-down menu that appears:

  • Scan for an option that says "Open transcript" or something similar.

  • Click on it to open the transcript window.

Step 4: Navigating the Transcript

Once the transcript window is open, you'll notice it appears on the right side of the video. Here are some quick navigation tips:

  • The transcript is broken down into timestamped chunks, representing each spoken segment of the video.

  • If you want to cross-reference the transcript with the video, click on any timestamp. The video will automatically skip to that specific part, allowing you to hear the corresponding audio.

Step 5: Preparing the Transcript for Copying

The timestamps, while useful, might not be necessary if you're looking to turn the transcript into an article. Here's how you remove them:

  • Within the transcript window, find the option labeled "Toggle Timestamps."

  • Click on it. The timestamps will disappear, leaving you with just the spoken content.

Step 6: Copying the Transcript

Now that you have a clean transcript:

  • Click at the end or beginning of the transcript, hold down your mouse button, and drag to the end to highlight all the text.

  • Right-click the highlighted text and select 'Copy' from the dropdown menu.

  • Open a document in any word processor (like Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or Notepad).

  • Right-click on the blank document and choose 'Paste' to paste your copied transcript. Save your document for good measure.

Step 7: Transforming the Transcript into an Article with ChatGPT

Here's where the magic happens. With the help of ChatGPT, you can not only reformat the transcript but even request specific writing styles or voices.

  • Visit the ChatGPT platform.

  • Introduce your request. For example: "Write a 1000 words listicle article in a professional and engaging tone about my Youtube video below, and remember to include SEO optimized hashtags and title: (PASTE TRANSCRIPT)"

  • Paste the transcript from your YouTube video.

  • Wait a few moments, and ChatGPT will provide you with a beautifully crafted article based on your transcript.

Bonus Tip: Always make sure to credit the original video or creator when using or sharing the transcribed content, especially if it's for public or commercial use.

Also, add your voice and words throughout the article so it sounds more like your original voice.  Remember the acronym “E-E-A-T”, or Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness, because it’s a guideline used by Google to determine what content is high-quality and should be ranked higher.

Infuse your own Experience in the article, as well as your personal expertise so Google will rank your article higher than others who just use the generic ChatGPT output.

This method not only helps in repurposing content but also allows readers to engage with material they might have otherwise overlooked. Whether you're an educator, student, content creator, or an enthusiast, this approach offers a fresh perspective on digital content consumption without you having to write articles yourself or hire an expensive copywriter to do the job.  Have AI do it for you!
